Fuel Economy Fast: how the thermostat can save your fuel

Thermostat

A thermostat is a valve between the engine and the radiator and ensures the engine stays at its ideal temperature.

When you start the engine the thermostat will be closed so that the engine warms up faster. When the engine is about to reach its optimal temperature, the thermostat will then allow the coolant to circulate through the radiator (to reduce its temperature) and ensure that the engine doesn’t overheat.

It might be an inexpensive part but its role is of major importance.

The Benefits of Tamper Proof Thermostats

Many landlords have had problems with tenants who keep on changing the settings of the thermostats installed in their homes. This not only results in higher bills due to over usage, but it also causes problems in the thermostats themselves if they are constantly being adjusted Therefore, installing tamper proof thermostats is a very good idea and is something that a number of landlords are now doing. Here are some of the benefits of using these and controlling tenant heat usage to reasonable levels.

*One of the main benefits of tamper proof thermostats is that the tenants cannot make any changes to these. The heat limits are generally between 70 and 73 degrees and the air conditioning goes from 72 to 76 degrees. Also the limits are programmed into the circuit boards, so no changes can be made to them without having to first change the circuit board. Also the set point limits are unchangeable which therefore guarantees that tenants cannot manipulate them.

*For the best security pick a tamper proof thermostat that doesn’t function with a security code makes them impossible to manipulate. Some security codes can be hacked into and changed, or your tenants could even buy the same brand of thermostat and figure how to change the code. Both these would not work well for you and therefore might not be a good option if you want to guarantee thermostat security.

The Benefits Of Installing A Programmable Thermostat

Aris Parviz is the general manager of in Virginia, a family-owned company specializing in residential and commercial HVAC systems, and according to him, a smart thermostat is one of the simplest and most effective ways to lower your energy costs. Here, Parviz talks about many benefits of installing a programmable thermostat in your home or business.

Whether you’re concerned about your carbon footprint or your bottom line, installing a programmable thermostat is an important part of improving your home’s energy efficiency. Part of a trend toward smart eco-friendly homes, programmable thermostats can simplify your life, save you money, keep you and your family more comfortable, and bring you other benefits.

background of digital thermostat

This invention relates to which control operation of heating and/or cooling apparatus, and particularly to an improved means for establishing a desired set point temperature in such thermostats.

For many years, thermostats for controlling heating and/or cooling apparatus have incorporated a bi-metal sensitive to room temperature, a switching means carried by the bi-metal, which switching means controls operation of the heating and/or cooling apparatus, and a lever or knob mechanically linked to the bi-metal. Associated with the lever or knob is some type of temperature indexing means. The arrangement is such that the user can establish a desired set point temperature at which the thermostat is to effect energizing or de-energizing of the heating and/or cooling apparatus by simply manually adjusting the lever or knob so as to visually indicate the desired set point temperature.

In recent years, a wide variety of have been developed which have the capability of being programmed by the user to provide a time-temperature schedule whereby the thermostat will automatically control room temperature at different set point temperatures during different time periods of the day and week. Many of such programmable thermostats incorporate a microcontroller which provides digital logic. The microcontroller provides a cost-effective means for implementing the desired functions of such thermostats. The microcontroller, primarily because of its digital logic, also enables such thermostats to provide more accurate and reliable control of room temperature than can generally be achieved by the aforementioned bi-metal type.
